First page of a leading daily... as it says.. ????
A day before while i was going through a newspaper ( a leading hindi daily......)
I saw a very interesting article on its first page- rght at the bootom generally where the feature articles or the soft stories get their place.. There i found an article saying , Dps has slashed an additional cess of Rs. 100 for hygene and sanitation, (toilet cleaning..)
Till now everything was ok.
But then i turned the page and ... there came a shocker...
another article...
" no drinking water available in 3 of DU colleges"...
Now i was astonished to see that an article which holds more importance than the DPS one, was on the second page.....
i wonder wheather a cess of RS 100 was more important for the readers or the unavailabily of pure drinking water in prominent colleges....
the reasons for my surprise were :
1) the number of people affected would definetely be more in case of the du colleges.
2) RS. 100 surcharge will not affect much to the parents who are willingly, till now, are spending a handsome amt. on their child/ children's future.
3) if in a state's capital, drinking water is not available then where can we expect.
4)the school is relatively in the outer part of the NCR (faridabad), while the DU colleges are situated in the heart of the city.
5) Also, this would have reflect the organisations social obligation in continuosly providing the news in public interests
These all reasons and many more came to me as a surprise, abt. the people involved in the newspaper setting...
I felt the second story was of a more importance and hence should be on the first page.
I also agree that a lot of other stories are there which must be accomodated but due to lack of space they dont find the reckoning .....
However, these two stories were from a comparitively same beat( field) and the second was in more public interest..
isn't it? ?????????????????????
